Introduction
Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna was established by the Government of Bihar through the Aryabhatta Knowledge University Act, 2008 [Bihar Act 24 of 2008] to incorporate a University and to conduct and facilitate affiliation of institutions set up by the Government and/or the Trust or Society in the conventional as well as new frontiers of professional education, for example, Engineering & Technology including Information Technology, Nanotechnology and Biotechnology, Management, Medicine, Health, Technology, Public Health, Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing, Education, Law, etc., and also to achieve excellence in teaching, research and extension work in these and related areas.
Aryabhatta Knowledge University (Amendment) Act, 2021 provides to establish and incorporate a University to achieve excellence in teaching, to promote and augment research in Professional Education and new frontiers of learning and knowledge and to conduct and facilitate affiliation of institutions set up by the State Government or Trust or Society in the fields of Nanotechnology, Astronomy, Environmental Science and Climate Change, River Studies, Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Geographical Studies, Non-Conventional Energy, Art and Culture, Philosophy, Stem Cell Technology, Archaeology and Curatorial Studies and others.
Prof. (Dr.) S. N. Guha took charge as the first Vice-Chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna on March 19, 2010. Chief Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar, proposed the establishment of academic centres to cater to frontier areas of technology. Accordingly, the first academic centre of the University --Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was established. He has time and again reiterated that his vision behind foundation of the University was not to award academic degrees merely for job market but also to establish a centre of higher learning which would focus primarily on teaching, research and extension works for knowledge creation and dissemination. Accordingly, the University is striving hard to fulfil his dreams to make Bihar a centre for higher learning and research in order to revive its glorious past in the field of traditional as well as frontier areas of education. During the years, the University has achieved significant progress on all fronts without exception.
The University is committed to providing access to quality education for better employability rate. Various activities, such as communication skills development training, campus placement drives, educational exchange programmes with renowned academic institutions, etc., are being carried out to help students develop leadership qualities and enable them to be self-dependent.
